Nature Study Trail Walk
Nature demonstrated more extremes this month with heavy rains and storms experienced across the Sydney, Illawarra and Southern Highlands.
A small and committed group braved the rain, along with a special visitor from Czechoslovakia, Vera. During Vera's short two week trip to Australia, we were very pleased that Wirrimbirra and the walk were on the agenda.
The guided walk along Nature Study Trail no.2 provides excellent examples of native trees, grasslands, shrubs and cooler climate ferns as the walk descends from the Bargo Plateau, to Wirrimbirra Creek, demonstrating aspects of creek formation, effect of temperature change and variation in plant adaption. Some of the flowers on show at this time of year included the Mountains Devil Lambertia formosa.
The Study Trails were used by thousands of children who have learnt about nature and the environment, at Wirrimbirra.
The next walk will follow the same Study Trail and showcase the changing mood of the winter forest.
